Two lots of Wankers this week. Firstly the Arts Council, who gave £50,000 to an artist named Michael Pinsky to set up an "installation" at Ashford, Kent. It consisted of a series of … wait for it … road signs set up on a roundabout. Not confusing to the poor old drivers at all, then. Apparently he had to take it down. There must be one or two people in Ashford with a bit of sense after all. And secondly, an old favourite - Nottingham Police who have come up with a novel method of fighting traffic-jams. Not for them the knee-jerk solutions like bus-lanes and congestion charging. In Nottingham they have far more imagination. In conjunction with Notts.County Council, they have applied to the county court for an injunction to prevent more than five vehicles from "congregating, driving in convoy or racing" in the county. A similar injunction was granted in 2006 to Nottingham City Council. The injunction will carry a maximum two year prison sentence for anyone who disobeys it. So, good people of Nottinghamshire, whatever you do, don't get caught up in a traffic jam or you could face two years in prison. And as for funerals … well, perhaps it would be better to walk! either on this site or on the World Wide Web. This site created and maintained by PlainSite |
